WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University Baseball team had six student-athletes named to an All-BIG EAST team this season.
Jake Bloss was tabbed as the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and was the lone unanimous selection on the all-conference first team.
Bloss boasted a 2.61 ERA in 41.1 innings of action in conference play. The graduate student had a 5-2 record and led the conference in strikeouts with 60 while holding his opponents to a .186 batting average. Bloss is the second conference pitcher of the year selection in program history with the last being Brian O'Hare in 1996. Bloss also is now second in program history in strikeouts in a season with 92, tied for fifth in wins with seven and is third in program history in strikeouts per nine innings with 11.7.
Michael Eze and
Ubaldo Lopez were also named first team all-conference selections for their efforts during the 2023 campaign. In conference play, Eze is slashing .342/.448/.560 with three home runs and 11 RBIs with six doubles as well. Lopez batted .289 in conference with five home runs, six doubles and 10 RBIs. The graduate student boasts a slugging percentage of .566 and an on base percentage of .413.
Owen Carapellotti,
Jake Hyde and
Austin Kretzschmar were named second team all-conference selections. Carapellotti hit .326 with six home runs in conference play and 16 RBIs. Hyde hit .313 with five doubles and five home runs in conference action. Hyde led the team in RBIs during conference play with 21. Kretzschmar led the team at the plate with a .347 average in conference play. Kretzschmar chipped in three home runs, 15 RBIs and seven doubles in 20 conference games this season.
Georgetown will be back in action tomorrow in the first round of the BIG EAST Championships at Prasco Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. First pitch against the No.1 seeded UConn Huskies is slated for 2:30 p.m.
