WASHINGTON – The Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) recently announced the 2022-23 Empacher-IRCA All-Academic Team, with 35 Hoyas from the men's rowing squad earning the recognition.
To be eligible for recognition a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, completed one full year at their institution, be an institutional letterwinner and competed in one of the school's top three boats at the 2023 IRA National Championship Regatta.
There were 638 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria set by the Awards & Polling Committee, and a 22% increase over last year's 525 honorees. Winners represent 64 teams (55 heavyweight and nine lightweight) from the 55-member programs.
The highest number of scholar-athletes from a single team came from the Georgetown lightweights with 26, followed by the Harvard heavyweights with 21. The highest number from one program came from Harvard with 41 combined scholar-athletes from their heavyweight and lightweight teams, followed by Georgetown with 35, Dartmouth with 34, Yale with 33 and MIT with 32.
