Georgetown’s Jake Bloss Selected by The Houston Astros in Third Round of 2023 MLB Draft

WASHINGTON – Georgetown graduate student Jake Bloss was selected by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the 99th overall selection. Bloss, a right-handed pitcher from Greensboro, North Carolina, is now the highest draft pick in program history at 99th overall surpassing Steve Iannini who was taken in the sixth round in both 1984 and 1985 at 154 overall and 143 overall, respectively.

Bloss dominated for the Hoyas this season as he was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the year, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper second team All-America, ABCA/Rawlings third team All-America and ABCA/Rawlings All Region team. Bloss set a program record for second most strikeouts in a season with 96, just one short of the all-time record of 97. The graduate student boasted an 8-4 record and a 2.58 ERA in 76.2 innings of work this season.

Head Coach Edwin Thompson on Jake Bloss
"I am so happy for Jake being selected by the Astros today. All the accomplishments that he has had, he has earned. To be the highest player drafted in program history says a lot about what a special year he had. We are all looking forward to following his career and his journey to the big leagues."
