2023 Positional Preview: Offensive Line

WASHINGTON – With under a week until the 2023 season kicks off at home against Marist on September 2, GUHoyas.com will take an in-depth look at each position with this edition featuring the team's offensive line.

"These guys have worked extremely hard during camp," said Offensive Line Coach Joey Partin. "We've got some really good leadership with the veterans in the room, but the younger guys have really bought in to what we are doing. I just want us to play together as a unit with all five of us playing the right way. We need to be finishing blocks and playing with a certain level of toughness."

The Hoyas will be led by graduate returners Spencer Harris and 2022 All-Patriot League Second Team selection Talati Polamalu. Combined, the duo has 35 games of playing experience for GU.

"It has been great having Talati and Spencer return to the lineup. Their leadership is extremely valuable especially with this younger group of guys."

Georgetown's offensive line protected the quarterback well in 2022, finishing the season ranked second in passing yards per game (275.8) while sitting third in total offense (357.7) and points per game (22.6).

The Blue & Gray's veteran offensive protection will also include seniors Richie Pinomi and Luke Popma and juniors Greg Johnson and team captain Kaysen Mahuka-Kaawa. The offensive line will also feature sophomores Losini Maka, Mansfield Owsley, Trevor Swan and Joshua Sauickie. Hampton Tanner joins the Hoyas for his junior season after transferring from Wake Forest.

"Hampton has fit right in. He brings an element of toughness with him and has been a great asset to the room."

Georgetown has added depth on the line with several newcomers who will look to make an impact in their first collegiate season in freshmen Correy Mays Jr., Kevin Quinn, Jorge Ruiz, Nathan Staggs and Mosiah Talanoa

"Regardless of who is in there I expect all of us to know our assignment and technique and to play together as a unit. The young guys have the same expectations as the older guys. A lot of the freshmen have stepped up and I think you are going to see some of them play some snaps for us. I believe they will rise to the challenge when they get that opportunity."
