Georgetown Begins D.C. Showdown, Hosts Old Dominion and North Alabama

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team (5-1) will play their first home games of the season when they host Old Dominion (4-3) and North Alabama (3-3) on Friday at McDonough Arena in the D.C. Showdown. The Hoyas will play their third and final game of the tournament when they travel across town to George Washington (0-5) on Saturday.

About the Hoyas:
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the VCU Invitational, which saw them down Radford (3-1) and VCU (3-0) and fall to Iona (3-1).
  • The Hoyas are tied with Seton Hall (5-1) for first place in the BIG EAST as nonconference play continues.
  • Last week the BIG EAST named Kamryn Lee-Caracci Freshman of the Week. Lee-Caracci led the Hoyas with a team-high 14 total blocks over the weekend. She also tallied 27 kills on an impressive .468 hitting percentage.
  • Graduate student Peyton Wilhite has been an all-around threat for the Hoyas, leading the team in blocks (31.0) and is second in digs (74), and kills (63).
  • The Georgetown defense has been elite to start the season, ranking second in opponent hitting percentage behind only Nebraska nationally. They also lead the BIG EAST in total blocks on the season.
 
Scouting Old Dominion:
  • Old Dominion (4-3) played last on Tuesday, falling to Virginia on the road in a five-set thriller.
  • ODU started their season red hot, going undefeated as they hosted the Quest for the Crown to start their season. The tournament saw victories over VCU (3-1), Norfolk State (3-0), and William & Mary (3-1).
  • Freshman libero Kate Kilpatrick anchors the defense, leading the team with 79 digs.
  • The duo of Myah Conway (88 kills) and Bryanna Jones (85 kills) lead the Monarchs' offense.
Scouting North Alabama:
  • North Alabama (3-3) is coming off a 1-2 weekend that saw losses hosting Evansville (3-1), and Samford (3-1) and a victory at Alabama State (3-1).
  • Freshman Avery Markham has impressed for the Lions, earning Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week in the first week of the season. She leads the team with 73 digs on the season.
  • Grad student Anna Katherine Griggs leads the offense with 62 kills and 76.0 points on the season.
  • Kennedy Johnson leads the team with 5.88 assists per set.
 
Scouting George Washington:
  • George Washington (0-5) has played all five games on the road this season, traveling to American and Howard for the D.C. for the first week of the season and to Statesboro, Ga. last week for the Eagle Invitational.
  • The last weekend saw the Revolutionaries go winless, falling 3-0 to Georgia Southern, Stetson, and Charleston.
  • GW was pegged to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 Conference in their preseason poll.
  • A balanced attack leads GW. Senior Liv Womble leads the offense with 33 kills, while Salem Yohannes has 32 and Brittany Myers has 31.
