Kevin Warne Named U.S. Men's National Team Assistant Coach

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Coach Kevin Warne has been selected as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's Field National Team for the next World Lacrosse Men's Championship in 2027 in Japan. Warne is currently in his 13th season leading the Hoyas on the Hilltop.

The 2021 F. Morris Touchstone Award winner as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Coach of the Year, Warne is also a five-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year. With 111 career wins – second most in program history – Warne has led the Hoyas to six consecutive BIG EAST Championships in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

During his tenure on the Hilltop, Warne has coached 35 USILA All-Americans, two Tewaaraton Award Finalists and guided 59 players to All-BIG EAST honors including four BIG EAST Freshmen of the Year, four BIG EAST Attack Players of the Year, three BIG EAST Goalkeepers of the Year, one BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and two BIG EAST Defensive Players of the Year awards. Five of his players have played in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game, while 21 have gone on to play professionally in Major League Lacrosse or the Premier Lacrosse League.

Prior to taking over the Hoyas in 2013, Warne was an assistant at Maryland (2011-12), Harvard (2008-2010), UMBC (2005-07, Delaware (2001-04) and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (2000).

Warne joins the Team USA staff under Head Coach Seth Tierney who was an assistant coach at Hofstra during Warne's playing days. A 2000 graduate of Hofstra, Warne majored in psychology while playing for the Flying Dutchmen from 1995-99. He was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time All-America East honoree. As a senior, he was also named an honorable mention All-American after guiding Hofstra to its third league championship and postseason berth.

Team USA has won 11 World Championships, including the past two in Israel (2018) and San Diego (2018) and looks to win its third-straight in Japan in 2027. Warne is the first active Georgetown head coach to serve as a member of the Team USA staff, as legendary Hoya Head Coach Dave Urick was an assistant in 1982 and head coach in 1986 while coaching at Hobart.
