WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will open the 2024 season at the MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Hoyas will play three games against Grand Canyon (Friday 2/16), Cal Berkley (Saturday 2/17) and Kansas State (Sunday 2/18). This is the first time the Hoyas will participate in the event and all games can be streamed on mlb.com or on the MLB Network.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
- GU is coming off of back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history.
- The Hoyas won their first BIG EAST Championships game last season, downing Seton Hall 6-3.
- In 2023, GU recorded its highest RPI ranking in school history finishing the season at 136 overall.
- The Hoyas return a plethora of talent as 25 letterwinners from a season ago are back for 2024.
- Georgetown's roster is comprised of student-athletes from 19 different states and the District of Columbia.
- Junior Owen Carapellotti and sophomore Cody Bowker both earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST team. In 2023, Carapellotti smashed 16 home runs and appeared in all 57 games for GU. Bowker posted a 2.57 ERA in 42.0 innings of action last season while recording 47 strikeouts.
- Seniors Michael Eze and Jake Hyde return for GU after earning themselves a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team and Second Team in 2023, respectively. Eze was lethal on the base path for the Blue & Gray tallying a team-high 18 stolen bases to go along with a .290 batting average and 10 home runs. Hyde was second on the team in batting average (.320) and was tied for second in home runs (16). Hyde also recorded a team-high 56 RBIs during the 2023 campaign.
- Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his fourth season on the Hilltop after posting a 30-27 record in 2023. Thompson has guided the Blue & Gray to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history and also had the highest draft pick in program hisotry as Jake Bloss was taken 99th overall by the Houston Astros.
ABOUT GCU
- GCU finished 2023 with a 37-21 record and the Lopes captured the WAC Regular Season title.
- For the seventh-consecutive season GCU was selected to win the WAC in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Daniel Avitia was named the WAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight season and first baseman Zach Yorke and outfielder Cade Verdusco joined Avitia on the Preseason All-WAC team.
ABOUT CAL
- The Bears posted a 24-28 record in 2023 after going 29-27 in 2022.
- Cal was picked to finish eighth in the Preseason Pac-12 poll. Five Bears were named to the Preseason All-Conference team.
- Rodney Green Jr. and Caleb Lomavita were both named to the Golden Spikes Watch List to start the season.
ABOUT KANSAS STATE
- Kansas State posted a 35-24 record in 2023 before falling to TCU in the Big 12 semifinals.
- K-State had three players named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team and the Wildcats were picked to finish fifth out of thirteen teams in the conference.
- Tyson Neighbors was named the D1 Baseball Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year after posting a 1.85 ERA in 48.2 innings of action. Neighbors was also named a Consensus All-American in 2023.
