Abel Teffra Named BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

WASHINGTON – Wednesday afternoon, Georgetown's Abel Teffra was named this week's BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

The award comes after Teffra led the Hoyas in the distance medley relay (DMR) at the Terrier DMR Challenge, running a 3:56.1 anchor leg split to allow the team to finish second overall with a time of 9:23.78. 

The mark set a new program record and currently ranks first in the BIG EAST and 11th nationally.

  • A talented middle-distance runner, Teffra's award continues a string of dominant performances this season.
  • On February 3, Abel Teffra set a new personal best in the mile with his 3:56.33.
  • Continuing his success, Teffra set a new school record and new personal best for the indoor mile with a 3:54.62 finish at the Valentine Invitational on February 10.
  • Last year, Teffra finished 10th in the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region Championships and finished third in the 800m at both the BIG EAST Indoor Championships and the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. 
  • This is the senior's first time receiving BIG EAST weekly honors this season.
