Hoyas Travel to College Park for Midweek Showdown Against Maryland

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will make the quick trip to College Park, Maryland to face the Maryland Terrapins in a midweek contest on Tuesday, February 27. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
 
  • Georgetown (3-4) went 3-1 last week with a midweek win over Navy and a series win over VMI 2-1.
  • Jake Hyde was fantastic for the Hoyas last week slashing .333/.333/.889. The senior tallied four runs scored, six hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs and eight RBIs. Hyde was one single short of a cycle on Saturday afternoon against VMI.
  • Joe Hollerbach also had a solid week for GU slashing .333/.412/.333. Hollerbach started every game at third base for the Blue & Gray and had a .941 fielding percentage.
  • Owen Carapellotti leads the Hoya offense this season batting .296 with two home runs, one double, four RBIs, three runs scored and eight total hits.
  • Cody Jensen was stellar on the mound for GU last week going five and a third innings in two outings for GU. Jensen allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out four across his two appearances. Jensen also earned his first win of the season against Navy on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Nick Davis earned two saves for GU last week coming in to close out Navy and VMI in the third game of the series. Davis allowed zero hits in his 1.2 innings of work across both appearances.
  • Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his fourth season on the Hilltop after posting a 30-27 record in 2023. Thompson has guided the Blue & Gray to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history and also had the highest draft pick in program after 2023 as Jake Bloss was taken 99th overall by the Houston Astros.
 
ABOUT MARYLAND
  • Maryland (5-2) is coming off a 6-5 loss to the University of Washington in the Kleberg Bank College Classic on Sunday. The Terps played three games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Pitt and Washington. UMD beat Texas A&M CC 7-5 on Friday afternoon and defeated Pitt 10-4 on Saturday afternoon recording their fourth and fifth wins of the season, respectively.
  • Maryland faced Georgia Southern during opening weekend and took the series 2-1 after winning games one and two 5-4 and 7-1, respectively.
  • Jacob Orr leads the Terps at the plate slashing .429/.556/.619 on the season with nine hits, one home run and six RBIs.
  • Kenny Lippman leads Maryland's pitching staff with a 2.00 ERA in nine innings of action this season. Lippman has allowed seven hits and only two earned runs while striking out nine.
