WASHINGTON – A trio Georgetown University men's lacrosse players earned BIG EAST weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Ty Banks was selected as Defensive Player of the Week,
Anderson Moore was tabbed Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and
Aidan Carroll earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll following an 11-10 overtime victory on the road at top-ranked Notre Dame on Sunday.
In just his second collegiate game, Banks was tasked to mark two-time Tewaaraton Award Finalist Pat Kavanagh the entire game. The freshman came up huge, holding Kavanagh to just one goal in 6v6 action, scoreless through 45 minutes and without a goal until 39 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Banks was credited with the caused turnover on Kavanagh with seven seconds in regulation to force overtime, en route to Georgetown's upset win.
Anderson earns Freshman of the Week honors once again, hauled in 11 saves against the Fighting Irish, including one on the opening possession of overtime. He has had at least 10 saves in his last three games for the Blue & Gray.
Carroll scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Hoyas to victory in South Bend. He had three goals on the day with all three coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Carroll has posted three-straight hat tricks on the year.
