Hoyas Face No. 14 UVA in Midweek Showdown

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will head to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on the No.14 Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday, March 19. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Disharoon Park and the game will be broadcasted on the ACC Network.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
 
  • Georgetown (13-6) went 5-0 last week grabbing wins against George Washington and Delaware during the week before sweeping UAlbany over the weekend.
  • Josh Rolling was spectacular for the Hoyas this week slashing .571/.739/1.143 in five games. Rolling tallied eight hits, 11 runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs. The graduate student also earned nine walks on the week to go with three stolen bases.
  • Everett Catlett dominated for the Blue & Gray last week pitching 10.2 innings across two appearances. The redshirt sophomore earned two wins (George Washington & UAlbany) while holding his opponents to five hits and no earned runs while fanning 15 across the two games. Catlett set a season high for strikeouts on Sunday against UAlbany fanning nine batters in 5.2 innings of action.
  • Nick Davis is tied for ninth in the country in saves with four, a mark good for first in the conference.
  • Christian Ficca has been on a tear in 2024 slashing .408/.494/.750 in 19 games this season. Ficca has 31 hits, 18 runs scored, eight doubles, six home runs and 32 RBIs which is good for ninth in the nation. The senior has also chipped in 11 walks and two hit by pitches while striking out only seven times.
  • The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in double plays (23) and doubles (49) which is also good for 15th nationally. GU also leads the conference in hits (203) which ranks 44th nationally, home runs (30) and runs (178). GU is currently second in the country in saves with nine and tied for first in the nation in successful pickoffs with 10. 
 
ABOUT VIRGINIA
  • Virginia (16-4) is coming off a series win against No. 7 Wake Forest as the Cavaliers took two of the three games by scores of 16-10 and 11-10 in extra innings.
  • Bobby Whalen leads UVA at the plate and is slashing .421/.493/.526 on the season with 24 hits, six doubles and 13 RBIs.
  • Evan Blanco leads the Cavaliers on the mound with a 3.52 ERA in 23 innings of action this season. Blanco is 1-1 and has allowed 24 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 26.
