Hoyas Travel to North Carolina to Face No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 12 Duke

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will head down to North Carolina to face No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 12 Duke in two midweek contests. The Hoyas will face the Demon Deacons on Tuesday, March 5 with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. GU will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 against the Blue Devils with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
 
  • Georgetown (6-5) went 3-1 last week dropping a midweek contest to Maryland (14-5) before sweeping the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights over the weekend.
  • Jake Hyde continued his tear for GU last week, slashing .533/.600/1.267. The senior recorded seven runs scored, eight hits, two doubles, three home runs and four RBIs. Hyde also earned three walks and was hit by a pitch. The Darien, Connecticut native broke the program record for home runs on Friday as he belted his 40th career homer. Hyde also leads the BIG EAST in home runs with five on the season.
  • Christian Ficca had a stellar week for the Hoyas slashing .526/.550/.947. Ficca recorded three runs scored, 10 hits, two doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and one walk. Ficca leads the BIG EAST in doubles with six and RBIs with 15 and is second in the conference in hits with 17.
  • Andrew Williams was stout in his lone appearance of the week going 5.1 innings while allowing a 1.68 ERA, four hits, two runs and one earned run. Williams tallied a season-high eight strikeouts.
  • Nick Davis is ranked sixth in the country in saves with three, a mark good for first in the conference.
  • The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in doubles so far this season with 24 and are second in the conference in hits with 99. GU is ranked 17th in the country and first in the BIG EAST for sacrifice bunts with eight on the season.
 
ABOUT WAKE FOREST
  • Wake Forest (10-1) is currently ranked No. 1 in the country and is coming off a 3-0 weekend with two wins over Binghamton and one win over Elon.
  • Adam Tellier leads the Deacs at the plate slashing .390/.537/.878. Tellier has 16 hits, five doubles, five home runs and 12 RBIs to go along with 12 walks.
  • On the mound, Michael Massey leads Wake Forest with a 0.71 ERA and a 3-0 record. Massey has allowed one earned run on the season while striking out 22.
 
ABOUT DUKE
  • Duke (10-1) is currently ranked No. 12 in the country and is coming off a 2-1 weekend where the Blue Devils took the series against Akron but dropped their first game of the season on Saturday in a 4-3 contest with the Zips.
  • Ben Miller leads the Blue Devils at the plate slashing .465/.531/.953. Miller has 20 hits, six doubles, five home runs, 11 RBIs and three walks.
  • On the mound, Jonathan Santucci and Kyle Johnson lead Duke with a 0.00 ERA and both Santucci and Johnson boast a 3-0 record. Santucci has struck out 31 on the season and given up only 10 total hits in 17 innings of action. Johnson has given up one unearned run and six hits in 12 innings of work.

The Hoyas will be back in action this weekend as GU is set to host Cornell for a three-game series. Saturday, March 9 will feature a doubleheader between the two sides.
