WASHINGTON – The Wichita Sports Commission has released the official watch list for the 2024 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award. The award recognizes the nation's top Division I collegiate catcher as voted on by the head coaches and sports information directors. The 2024 watch list features 63 student-athletes from NCAA Division I universities nationwide.
Junior catcher Owen Carapellotti was named to the watch list for the second-consecutive season after two fantastic years behind the dish on the Hilltop. The Canton, Michigan native was a Freshman All-American during his first season in the Blue & Gray, slashing .282/.396/.552 with 18 doubles, eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 24 walks. During his sophomore season, Carapellotti was named Second Team All-BIG EAST and was selected to the 2023 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. In his second season as a Hoya, Carapellotti slashed .289/.380/.556 with eight doubles, 16 home runs and 44 RBIs to go with 24 walks.
Carapellotti has continued to improve over the course of his junior season, slashing .303/.430/.593 in 38 games. The junior has tallied nine doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 40 RBIs, and 25 walks on the season.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 22 before the finalists are announced on June 6.
