Hoyas Travel to Omaha to Face Creighton in Three-Game Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Creighton Bluejays in a three-game series this weekend. Game one is slated for Friday, April 26 at Charles Schwab Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. central time.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown (27-13, 8-4 BE) enters the contest after securing a midweek victory over George Washington 13-5 on Tuesday evening. GU was led by Christian Ficca's five RBIs on the night as the Hoyas cruised to their 27th victory of the campaign.
  • Last season, GU took the series against Creighton 2-1 after dropping game one of the series 15-11 on Friday evening. The Hoyas took games two and three 8-3 and 13-1 securing their first series victory over the Bluejays since 2018.
  • Ficca leads the Blue & Gray at the plate slashing .357/.471/.611. The senior has 56 hits a mark good for second in the conference, 13 doubles, nine home runs and a league-best 52 RBIs.
  • Six Hoyas are currently batting .300 or better on the season. GU leads the conference in base on balls (216), double plays (39) a mark good for sixth nationally and leads the BIG EAST in slugging percentage (.487). GU is second in the conference in ERA (4.64), second in hits allowed per nine innings (8.37), third in shutouts (3), first in WHIP (1.44) and second in walks allowed per nine innings (4.59).
  • Josh Rolling leads the conference in base on balls (34) and teammate Jake Hyde leads the BIG EAST in doubles (16). Andrew Williams leads the conference in ERA (2.36) and Nick Davis leads the conference in saves (6).
  • Davis was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award Watch List on Wednesday by the NCBWA. Davis is one of 59 nationally on the list.
  • Owen Carapellotti was named to the Buster Posey Award Watch List last week, the award recognizing the best collegiate catcher in the country. Sixty-three student-athletes were named to the list and this is Carapellotti's second-consecutive season being named to the watch list.
 
ABOUT CREIGHTON
  • Creighton (30-9) is coming off a weekend series loss to Villanova as the Wildcats took two out of three against the Bluejays. Creighton then faced No. 13 Coastal Carolina in a midweek series playing the Chants twice. CU was able to sweep the midweek series against CCU 7-3 and 5-4 in 10 innings.
  • Nolan Sailors leads the Bluejays at the plate slashing .393/.508/.633 on the season. Sailors has recorded 59 hits, 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 49 RBIs on the season.
  • On the mound, Eli Nissen leads the Bluejays with a 2-1 record and a 2.35 ERA in 30.2 innings of work this season. Nissen has made 11 appearances on the season, four of which are starts and has allowed 20 hits, eight earned runs, eight walks and has struck out 28.
