WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field program concluded competition in the Penn Relay Carnival on Saturday, April 27th at the historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Georgetown broke the American record in the 4xMile, while also picking up podium finishes in two other events.
ON THE RECORD
"I've seen many great Hoya Penn Relays moments but not too many rival the Men's 4xMile Championship of America today. To break the American Record and finish 3rd is mind-boggling. We had
Abel Teffra on anchor and he gave every ounce of energy to contend for the win, running a 3:54.2 split, which I believe is the fastest split ever run at the Penn Relays for this event. Our men's 4x800 relay team were also very competitive in a tough field finishing 4th. Was also great to see a Hoya lineup in the 100m final placing 3rd overall. Women's 4x100 winning the College section of the event was also a wonderful achievement for a young group.
We're proud of the effort put out there by the entire team this weekend and look forward to what's in store with the post season approaching." - Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Alton McKenzie
"I'm very happy with how the men competed this weekend. I think we showed how deep we are in the middle distance events. That 4xMile was historic and we ended up setting an American record. The goal here is always to win but that is extremely hard to do. I'm really proud of their efforts." - Assistant Coach
Brandon Bonsey
