Hoyas to Face Providence in BIG EAST Championship Semifinals

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's second-seeded men's lacrosse opens the 2024 BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP against third seed Providence on Thursday night in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The 10th-ranked Hoyas are looking for their sixth-straight BIG EAST Championship while the Friars are making their second-straight appearance in the tournament.
 
On the Air
  • Opening faceoff for Thursday's game is set for 8:30 p.m. and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network with Brent Stover and Steve Panarelli calling the action.

About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas (13-2) are coming off a 12-4 road victory at Villanova in the regular season finale.
  • Seven Hoyas earned All-BIG EAST honors, including Ty Banks, Graham Bundy Jr., Aidan Carroll and Alexander Vardaro on the first team while TJ Haley and Anderson Moore picked up second team nods.
  • Moore was also named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, the fourth Hoya in program history to earn the honor and the third in the last four seasons.
  • On the season, Haley leads the Hoyas with 46 points (12G, 34A) while Carroll adds 44 (28G, 16A) and Bundy chips in 40 (29G, 11A). Vardaro has 36 points (26G, 10A) while Patrick Crogan (18 points), Jordan Wray (16 points), Joe Cesare (15 points), Kade Goldberg (15 points) and Chase Llewellyn (14 points) are all in double figures as well.
  • At the 'X', James Ball has won 145 of 240 (.604) faceoffs to rank seventh nationally and collected 74 ground balls in 13 games this season.
  • Defensively, the Blue & Gray have held their opponents to 10 goals or fewer in each of the past 11 games.
  • Banks has been credited with 17 caused turnovers while Wallace Halpert has 14, Hess has 13, Seamus Foley adds 11 and Wesley Chairs has 10.
  • In goal, Moore (10-3) has an 8.80 goals-against average to rank third in the NCAA to go with a .538 save percentage and 128 saves.
Scouting Providence
  • The Friars finished the regular season 7-7 overall and 3-2 in league play.
  • Ryan Bell leads PC with 63 points (21G, 42A) and was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year while Richie Joseph adds 50 points (38G, 12A) and Chris Cusolito has 31 (17G, 14A). Joseph was an All-BIG EAST Second Team recipient along with Michael Chabra.
  • Defensively, Ian Olenik has been credited with 22 caused turnovers to go with 33 ground balls.
  • In goal, James Corasaniti, another All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, has started all 14 games for the Friars. He has a 12.77 GAA to go with 152 saves and a .466 save percentage this season.
  • On faceoffs, Tom Fegley and Quinn McConnaughey have shared equal time at the dot, combining to win 166-of-373 (.445) attempts on the year. The duo has combined for 80 ground balls.
Series History
  • Thursday's meeting will be the 21st all-time between the two programs with Georgetown holding an 18-2 series lead.
  • The Hoyas have won the past nine meetings, including a 15-10 Georgetown win in Providence earlier this season.
  • In the BIG EAST Championship, the two teams have met twice before – a 13-11 Georgetown win at Denver in 2019 and a 19-8 Hoyas victory in Milwaukee last season.
