WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field program began competition at the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 9 in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
The Hoyas competed in the women's and men's 10,000m events on day one of the three-day meet.
Chloe Scrimgeour took gold in the women's 10,000m with a finish of 32:36.25.
After day one with three events scored, the Hoya women are in fourth place with 14 points. With two events scored, the men are in seventh with three points.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Scrimgeour took first place in the women's 10,000m, running a personal-best time of 32:36.25 for the title. The time is a new program record, smashing Melissa Grelli's 2007 record of 33:01.56 in the NCAA championships. Scrimgeour's time is a new fifth-place nationally ranked mark.
- The title is Scrimgeour's third of her career, after taking gold in the 5,000m at the 2023 indoor and outdoor championships.
- Kelsey Swenson also took fifth place in the 10,000m with a time of 35:10.04.
- On the men's side, Charlie North took sixth place in the 10,000m with a 30:07.04 finish, earning another three points for the Hoyas.
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will continue competition tomorrow with day two of the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. The Hoyas will take the track starting at 12:30 p.m.
