WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team had four student-athletes named to the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region East Teams. Senior
Everett Catlett earned a spot on the All-Region East First Team while senior
Christian Ficca, senior
Jake Hyde and junior
Owen Carapellotti all earned spots on the All-Region East Second Team. This is the first time in program history that GU has had four athletes earn All-Region honors in the same season. Georgetown had the most selections in the east region with four student-athletes earning honors. Maryland and Penn State both had the second most student-athletes on the list with three each.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee. The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Tommy Raffo. The committee also includes Mitch Canham (Oregon State University), Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth University), Brian Green (Wichita State University), Jeff Mercer (Indiana University), Brian O'Connor (University of Virginia), Jim Penders (University of Connecticut), and Butch Thompson (Auburn University).
Catlett was dominant for the Blue & Gray in 2024 posting a 6-1 record with a 3.36 ERA on the season. Catlett was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team at the conclusion of the season after posting a 3-1 record and a conference-best, 1.80 ERA in league action. The Manassas, Virginia native tossed 77.2 innings on the season and amassed 84 strikeouts across his 16 appearances. Catlett was a pivotal piece of the Hoya pitching staff contributing two saves while starting 13 contests. The lefty also contributed in two of the Hoyas five shutouts in 2024.
Ficca was sensational this spring garnering BIG EAST Player of the Year honors at the conclusion of the regular season. Ficca, who was also an All-BIG EAST First Team selection, had his best season as a Hoya in 2024, slashing .344/.448/.567. The senior led the team in hits (77) and RBIs (64) while leading the Hoyas to their first ever appearance in the BIG EAST Championship game.
Hyde had another stellar season in the Blue & Gray slashing .297/.405/.560 with a team-best 20 doubles. Hyde was named to the All-BIG EAST second Team for the second-consecutive season. Hyde led the team in runs (58) and total bases (130) and had a perfect fielding percentage across 56 games in 2024. The senior was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for his efforts in the classroom.
Carapellotti was fantastic in his junior campaign for the Hoyas catching 56 of the team's 57 games. The junior was tabbed to the NCAA Division I All-Region East Second Team in 2023 as well, marking the second time Carapellotti has been named to an All-Region team in his career. The Canton, Michigan native slashed .284/.427/.564 this season while chipping in 11 doubles, three triples, 53 RBIs and a team-best 14 home runs. Carapellotti was also tied for the team lead in walks with 41 on the season and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second-consecutive season.
