Sorber Garners Fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Recognition, Mack Earns Spot on Honor Roll

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's basketball freshman Thomas Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and sophomore Malik Mack earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the league office in New York on Monday. The awards come after a span where the Hoyas went 2-0 defeating Coppin State (Dec. 28, 85-53) and Xavier (Jan. 3, 69-63). This is the fourth time this season Sorber has garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.

  • In league action against Xavier, Sorber chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and a pair each of blocks and assists en route to Georgetown's third-consecutive conference win.

MALIK MACK (SOPHOMORE / GUARD / 6-2 / 175 / OXON HILL, MD)

  • The sophomore chipped in 7.0 apg and 2.5 rpg over the two-game stretch.
  • Mack tallied his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 11 assists against Coppin State to close out nonconference action in his first game back after missing the opening two games of BIG EAST play.
  • In his first league appearance, Mack poured in a season-best 26 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the floor and a 7-for-9 performance from the charity stripe to help the Hoyas remain undefeated in conference action.
  • It is the first BIG EAST honor of his career and the fourth nod to the honor roll for the Hoyas this season (Jayden Epps - 11/25, 12/23; Micah Peavy - 12/2).
