Thomas Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and sophomore
Malik Mack earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the league office in New York on Monday. The awards come after a span where the Hoyas went 2-0 defeating Coppin State (Dec. 28, 85-53) and Xavier (Jan. 3, 69-63). This is the fourth time this season Sorber has garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.
THOMAS SORBER (FRESHMAN / FORWARD/CENTER / 6-10 / 255 / TRENTON, N.J.)
- In a pair of Hoya wins, Sorber averaged 17.0 ppg on 58.3% (14-24) shooting to go along with 8.5 rpg and 3.0 bpg.
- The freshman turned in a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds against Coppin State.
- The Trenton, New Jersey native managed an impressive 9-for-12 performance from the floor to go along with a quartet of blocks and a trio of assists against the Eagles.
- In league action against Xavier, Sorber chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and a pair each of blocks and assists en route to Georgetown's third-consecutive conference win.
MALIK MACK (SOPHOMORE / GUARD / 6-2 / 175 / OXON HILL, MD)
- In the time the Hoyas have gone 2-0 with wins over Coppin State (83-53) and Xavier (69-63), Mack has averaged 20.5 ppg on 48.1% (13-27) shooting, including a 42.9% (6-14) performance from beyond the arc.
- The sophomore chipped in 7.0 apg and 2.5 rpg over the two-game stretch.
- Mack tallied his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 11 assists against Coppin State to close out nonconference action in his first game back after missing the opening two games of BIG EAST play.
- In his first league appearance, Mack poured in a season-best 26 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the floor and a 7-for-9 performance from the charity stripe to help the Hoyas remain undefeated in conference action.
- It is the first BIG EAST honor of his career and the fourth nod to the honor roll for the Hoyas this season (Jayden Epps - 11/25, 12/23; Micah Peavy - 12/2).
