Hoyas Travel to No. 10/10 Maryland on Sunday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will make the short trip to College Park, Maryland to battle the No. 10/10 University of Maryland Terrapins on Sunday afternoon at the Xfinity Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on the B1G+.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown cruised to a dominant 90-45 victory over Stonehill College in the Hoyas' season opener on Thursday evening at McDonough Arena.
  • Senior Victoria Rivera was one of four Hoyas in double figures with 18 points including a perfect 4-4 performance from beyond the arc.
  • Junior Khia Miller added 17 points, while graduate student Brianna Scott had 11 points and six rebounds in her first game back from an injury suffered at the end of the 2023-24 season.
  • Graduate student Laila Jewett rounded out those in double figures posting 10 points, five assists and four rebounds in the contest.
  • Rivera earned BIG EAST Conference Honorable Mention Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
  • The Hoyas were also picked to finish seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 48 points.
  • In 2024-25, Georgetown went 12-19 as well as 4-14 in conference play. Georgetown boasted four postseason awards as Kelsey Ransom earned the BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award as well as First Team All-BIG EAST honors, while Ariel Jenkins was an Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST selection and Khadee Hession earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
  • The Hoyas lost three starters to graduation and return a talented group battling for minutes including Rivera, Hession, as well as Scott and Chetanna Nweke who are both coming back from injury.
  • The Blue & Gray brought in eight newcomers with seven transfers and one true freshman in Braelynn Barnett.
  • The transfers include Destiny Agubata (West Virginia), Brianna Byars (Cincinnati), Cristen Carter (Butler), Indya Davis (Georgia), Summer Davis (Georgia), Jewett (Central Florida) and Miller (East Carolina).
About the Terps
  • The Terrapins (2-0) are coming off an 87-54 win over UMBC Thursday night in College Park.
  • Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu and Oluchi Okananwa led the way with 15 points apiece. Yarden Garzon added 12 points and Saylor Poffenbarger scored 12 as the Terps scored in the victory.
  • Maryland was ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press preseason poll released Oct. 14 as well as in the USA Today preseason poll released Oct. 23.
  • The Terps were picked to finish second in the Big Ten, behind UCLA. Garzon and Kaylene Smikle were named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team by both the league's head coaches and media panel.

  • The last meeting was a 72-53 loss at the Comcast Center early in the 2011 campaign.
