Seventh-Seeded Hoyas Host 15th-Seeded Wolfpack in NCAA Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON - The seventh-seeded Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the 15th-seeded NC State Wolfpack in the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Georgetown men's soccer alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser back in the booth for their 21st season.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (14-3-4) are coming off of a 2-1 victory in the third round over the High Point Panthers last weekend at Shaw Field.
  • Senior Zach Zengue and sophomore Mitchell Baker both scored in the victory as the Blue & Gray advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth time in program history.
  • The Hoyas earned an automatic tournament berth after winning the program's seventh BIG EAST Championship defeating the third-seeded UConn Huskies, 3-1. It marked back-to-back titles for the Blue & Gray for the first time since 2017-19.
  • Zengue was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year when the conference announced its yearly honors. Additionally, the coaching staff was named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
  • Zengue was also a unanimous selection to the first team, Baker was another unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree, while junior Eric Howard also earned a spot on the first team.
  • Graduate student captain Diego Letayf was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection. The third team included senior Tenzing Manske as well as junior Matthew Van Horn.
  • Zengue is leading the squad in scoring with 14 goals and 13 assists for 41 points on the season. He is eighth in the nation in total goals, third in assists and third in the country in points.
  • Baker is tied with Zengue in goals with 14 on the season to go along with three assists for 31 points. His 14 goals rank him eighth in the nation as well.
  • Manske has played 1,755 minutes in goal and has a 0.77 goals-against average as well as 10 total shutouts and 50 saves.
  • Georgetown is currently leading the country in total goals with 50, and is second in points with 150 on the year.
About the Wolfpack
  • NC State (14-2-4) advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Marshall (2-0) and UNC Greensboro (2-0).
  • Donavan Phillip leads the squad with 17 goals and one assist for 35 points on the year.
  • The Wolfpack has allowed just seven goals this season to lead the nation in goal differential, save percentage, shutout percentage and team goals-against average.
  • This season marks the 18th national tournament berth for the Wolfpack. The last time the program earned a first round bye and won in the second round was in 1992.

  • The Hoyas won the national championship in 2019, downing Virginia in penalty kicks.
  • GU's last trip to the College Cup was in 2021 when the squad fell to the University of Washington 2-1 in the national semifinal. In 2012, the squad was the national runner up, falling to Indiana 1-0 in the national championship game. Prior to that season, the program had never moved beyond the second round of the tournament.
  • The Hoyas are 21-11-6 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
  • This is the 12th time the Hoyas have earned a seeding in the tournament. It is the first seven seed in program history.
