WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, the BIG EAST Conference announced that Georgetown University's men's and women's DMR teams were awarded the BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week and BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week. Both Georgetown DMR teams broke the school record in the men's and women's events at the Terrier DMR Challenge in Boston, Massachusetts.
Head Coach Alton McKenzie
"With Georgetown's rich history in the DMR, it speaks volumes that our Men & Women broke school records in the manner which they did in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Being named Big East Track athletes of the week really highlighted how important it was for all four legs to work together to achieve a common goal. Both quartets certainly earned the recognition they rightly deserved."
Assistant Coach Mitchell Baker
"We're always up against tough competition for weekly Big East honors, so we're honored the relay was recognized for the DMR they put together this past weekend in their quest to earn an NCAA bid. While we await the final NCAA descending list at the conclusion of this coming weekend to determine our fate in that relay, it's time to reset for the Big East meet this weekend; these four and the rest of our squad will have the opportunity to face this season's previous honorees and the other great athletes looking to make their own program and league history in Chicago."
Assistant Coach Brandon Bonsey
"This is well deserved recognition for these four young men. Each one competed very well on Friday. They were happy to break the school record and be in a great position to qualify for the NCAA meet."
Men's DMR Team | Abel Teffra, Jaden Marchan, Gabriele Angiono and Tinoda Matsatsa
Women's DMR Team | Charlotte Tomkinson, Rebecca Ochan, Charlotte Bell and Melissa Riggins
