Georgetown Football Names Kibble and Rufo as 2025 Team Captains

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced that junior wide receiver Jimmy Kibble and sophomore linebacker GianCarlo Rufo will lead the Hoyas as team captains for the upcoming 2025 season.

"I am excited to name both Jimmy and GianCarlo as captains to lead our program for the 2025 season," said Sgarlata. "During their time on the Hilltop, they have excelled in the classroom and on the field. They both genuinely care for their teammates and embrace the role of men for others."

Last season, Kibble started in 10 games for the Hoyas and led the Patriot League with 720 reception yards on 46 catches. Kibble's longest catch of the season was a 60-yard reception against Brown. The junior also added three touchdown catches. As a sophomore, the Leesburg, Virginia native contributed in all 11 games for GU and recorded 33 catches for a total of 753 yards and eight touchdowns. Kibble is rising in the Georgetown record books, currently sitting at 10th in career receiving yards (1591) and 11th in career receiving touchdowns (11). During the 2023 season, the wide receiver also set the program record for the longest reception at 95 yards off a pass from Tyler Knoop to help boost the Hoyas in a 50-47 win at Bucknell. Kibble had an immediate impact on the Hoyas during his freshmen season. In 2022, he saw action in eight games on both offense and special teams. Kibble recorded six catches for 118 yards and one touchdown and returned one punt for a touchdown in a 43-12 win at Marist. Kibble has earned multiple league honors including two weekly awards, two All-Patriot League Second Team selections (2023, 2024) and a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honor.

During the 2024 season, Rufo started in all 11 games for the Blue & Gray. The linebacker led the Hoyas with 83 tackles (47 solo, 36 assists) while also recording 6.5 TFLs, three sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a sophomore, the Honolulu, Hawaii native collected four Patriot League Weekly Honors and was named to the 2024 All-Patriot League Second Team. As a freshman, Rufo played in 10 games and recorded 38 tackles (27 solo, 11 assists).  In addition to his on-field accolades, Rufo has been recognized for his success in the classroom. In 2024, Rufo was named to the Patriot League Academic All-League Team, Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the CSC Academic All-District Team.
