Hoyas Finish Eighth at Inaugural More Than Golf Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team finished eighth at the inaugural More Than Golf Invitational, a three-round tournament, created by the ANNIKA Foundation and co-hosted by Augusta University and Columbia University. With a score of 49-over 925 (314-308-303), the Hoyas placed eighth among the 12-team field that competed on the par-73, 6,425-yard course at Old Barnwell in Aiken, South Carolina. No. 36 Georgia Southern took the top spot at even 876 (294-290-292).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Co-captain Megan Gormley was the top Hoya on the leaderboard as she finished 54 holes tied for 15th after carding an 8-over 227 (77-74-76). Starting on hole 10, the graduate student tallied a trio of birdies, all on the back nine, to go along with 10 pars over the final 18 holes. For the tournament, she tallied one eagle (1/0/0), eight birdies (2/3/3) and 31 pars (9/12/10).
  • Fellow co-captain Georgia Ruffolo finished tied for 26th place at 12-over 231 (78-76-77). She managed a quartet of birdies on the day and added six pars. Her tournament totals were 10 birdies (2/4/4) and 24 pars (9/9/6).
  • Moving up 13 spots over the final round was Claire Chen in a tie for 28th place at 13-over 232 (81-78-73). Her even par performance in the final round was the best round for any Hoya this tournament and was fueled by a quintet of birdies eight pars. Her three-day totals were 12 birdies (2/5/5) and 23 pars (8/7/8).
  • At 18-over 237 (78-82-77), freshman Gabriella Eifrig finished the three-round tournament tied for 45th place. Her final round saw an eagle on 16 as she added 11 pars. Over 54 holes, she totaled one eagle (0/0/1) , six birdies (2/4/0) and 26 pars (11/4/11).
  • At 28-over 247 (84-80-83), Catherine Qiu finished in 59th place. She managed 10 pars in the final round for three birdies (1/2/0) and 26 pars (7/9/10) over the tournament.
  • Playing as an individual, Tina Tang moved up eight spots to finish 61st at 31-over 250 (84-88-78). With a trio of birdies to go along with seven pars in the third round, totals six birdies (2/1/3) and 17 pars (5/5/7).
