WASHINGTON – Georgetown sophomore
Blake Schaaf was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation Friday. Schaaf is one of 100 shortstops nationwide to be recognized for standout offensive and defensive performances this season.
The award, presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation, honors the nation's top shortstop. It's named after former Texas Tech standout Brooks Wallace, who starred for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 before passing away from leukemia at age 27.
"It's a great time of the year when we get to start diving into looking at all the shortstops from around the country and who might best represent the Brooks Wallace Award this year," said Larry Wallace, co-chair of the Brooks Wallace Award. "This list doesn't disappoint with some stellar offensive numbers along with some outstanding gloves to represent the shortstop position."
In his sophomore season, Schaaf has emerged as a key contributor for Georgetown, leading the team with a .316 batting average and an .887 OPS, including a .453 slugging percentage. He also tops the roster with a career-high 23 stolen bases. Schaaf has recorded 20 RBIs, two home runs, 37 hits, and 34 runs scored. Defensively, he's posted a .964 fielding percentage, anchoring the infield with steady play at shortstop.

"Blake is having a really good season and to see his growth this past year is what we want to see in our program as far as development goes. He is our leader in the infield, he has established himself as a consistent offensive player and has established himself as a threat on the base path. We are excited to see him continue to grow in his career here at Georgetown. It is an honor for our program and him to be recognized as one of the best shortstops in the country by the Brooks Wallace Award and College Baseball Foundation." - Head Coach
