Seven Hoyas Crowned BIG EAST Outdoor Champions, Ochan Awarded Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's track & field program wrapped up day three at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships presented by Jeep in Storrs, Connecticut. The final day of competition was highlighted by championship performances from Rebecca Ochan, Charlotte Tomkinson, Tinoda Matsatsa and the men's 4x400. Ochan secured the most outstanding track performer of the meet.

The Georgetown men's team earned 102 points, securing third place, The women placed fifth with 78 team points.

Head Coach Alton McKenzie
"Overall we had some great performances from our men and women to close out the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Though we didn't have large numbers competing on the women's side, having five individual event winners says a lot about the quality we possess. I must highlight the performance from Rebecca Ochan, breaking a 400m school record that stood for 32 years, previously held by one of Georgetown's most versatile sprinters Steffanie Jasper. Her time of 52.25 is now among the fastest in the country. Taking the 200 and 400 at indoor and outdoor is no easy feat.

On the men's side, putting five men in the final of the 800m, and going 1-2 with Tinoda and Abel, respectively, is beyond impressive. Winning the 4x400 was also a wonderful way to close out the championship, running the fastest 4x400 we've run at Georgetown since 2002.

Our focus now switches to the NCAA Regional Championships; we'll wait to see how many participants we'll have competing. We are certainly excited for what's ahead for the rest of the post season."
