Georgetown Set to Host UMBC in Midweek Matchup

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team is set to host the UMBC Retrievers in a midweek contest in Tysons, Virginia. The rescheduled game at Capital One Park is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 with first pitch coming at 3 p.m.

  • During the 2026 season, all parking for games at Capital One Park will be in the underground garage at 1820 Capital One Drive South. Patrons should bring their parking ticket to the stadium for validation of baseball rate.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

  • In its last outing, Georgetown swept Saint Peter's in a four-game series.
  • Graduate student JT Raab earned a nod to the 2026 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team after posting a team-best 3.63 ERA in 74.1 innings of action in 2025. The Seaford, New York native was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2025.
  • This week, Jeremy Sheffield was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Spencer Seid and Connor Peek were tabbed to the weekly honor roll.
  • Peek leads the Hoyas slashing .500/.543/.692 in his first season with the Blue & Gray. The graduate student has tallied 13 hits, a pair of doubles ,a home run, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.
  • Sheffield has had a standout performance for the Hoya offense slashing .484/.543/.774 in eight games played. The senior has notched 15 hits, a home run, four doubles, a triple, 14 RBIs and five runs scored.
  • In his debut as a Hoya, LHP Seid has delivered dominant outings for the Hoyas holding a 2-0 record. This past weekend the graduate student struck out six batters in 5.2 scoreless innings.
  • Georgetown returns 22 players from the 2025 squad and has added 10 transfers and seven newcomers.
  • The Hoyas welcomed seven newcomers to the 2026 roster: Ashton Arroyo, Charlie Hendrix, Dixon Monk, Gibson Pauley, Drew Rybinski, Simon Tesfaye and Max Whitmer.
  • The Hoyas added 10 graduate transfers from the transfer portal in the offseason: Brett Blair, Luke Jackman, Trajan Lee, Jack Mullen, Andrew Moy, Will Newell, Peek, Dante Pozzi, Seid and AJ Solomon.
  • Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his sixth season on the Hilltop. Thompson guided GU to its most successful season in program history in 2024 posting a 36-21 record marking three-consecutive 30-win seasons for the first time in program history. 

ABOUT UMBC

  • UMBC holds an 0-3 record following three-consecutive losses to Longwood on opening weekend.
  • The Retrievers finished the 2025 season with an 18-38 overall record and a 8-16 mark in conference play.
  • Dylan Melton leads the Retrievers slashing .333/.467/.333 on the season. Melton tallied four hits, three runs scored, a pair of walks, and an RBI over the weekend. 
  • Right-handed pitcher Owen Shaprow will make his collegiate debut against the Hoyas
  • Liam Bowen enters his seventh season at the helm of UMBC.
