Georgetown Takes on No. 9 Virginia

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team is set to travel to Charlottesville, Virginia to face the No. 9 University of Virginia Cavaliers on Wednesday, March 17. First pitch of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Disharoon Park.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

  • In its last outing, Georgetown fell to the Wiliam & Mary Tribe 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia.
  • Last week, Luke Jackman was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. The graduate student earned a pair of saves, his third and fourth of the season, against George Mason over the weekend.
  • Jeremy Sheffield leads the Hoya offense slashing .368/.467/.539 this season. The senior has notched 28 hits, 19 RBIs, eight doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 runs scored.
  • Connor Peek has had a standout performance slashing .351/.453/.459 in his first set of games. The graduate student has tallied 26 hits, five doubles, a home run, 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
  • Georgetown returns 22 players from the 2025 squad and has added 10 transfers and seven newcomers.
  • Graduate student JT Raab earned a nod to the 2026 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team after posting a team-best 3.63 ERA in 74.1 innings of action in 2025. The Seaford, New York native was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2025.
  • Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his sixth season on the Hilltop. Thompson guided GU to its most successful season in program history in 2024 posting a 36-21 record marking three-consecutive 30-win seasons for the first time in program history. 

ABOUT VIRGINIA

  • UVA enters the contest with a 16-4 record following a series win against Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers won 11-6 on Friday, March 13 and 10-5 on Saturday, March 14, but dropped the final game of the series 6-3 on Sunday, March 15 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
  • Harrison Didawick leads the Cavaliers slashing .358/.442/.481 on the season. Didawick has recorded 29 hits, three doubles, two triples, a home run, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 20 games.
  • Jayden Stroman holds a 2.70 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched. Stroman has recorded 16 punchouts only allowing four earned runs.
  • Chris Pollard enters his first season at the helm of Virginia.
