Men’s Lacrosse to Face Former BIG EAST Rival Syracuse

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's 13th-ranked men's lacrosse team is back in action with another top-15 showdown against eighth-ranked Syracuse on Sunday. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York.

  • The Hoyas are ranked 13th in both recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll and Kane Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
  • Georgetown is coming off a 14-7 victory at Loyola on Tuesday in Baltimore.
  • Liam Connor led Georgetown with three goals and six assists for nine points on the day.
  • Jake Bickel added a career-high four goals while Rory Connor notched three goals and an assist for his sixth-straight game for the Hoyas with at least a hat trick.

  • In goal, Moore has a 10.52 goals-against average to go with a .533 save percentage and 72 saves in five games.
Scouting Syracuse
  • The Orange are 7-2 on the season and coming off a down-to-the-wire 13-12 win at No. 14 Denver on Monday night. Both Syracuse losses are to current top-five teams in No. 3 Princeton and No. 4 Harvard.
  • Joey Spallina leads SU with 42 points (19G,23A) while Michael Leo adds 28 (15G, 13A) and Finn Thomson has 24 (18G, 6A).
  • John Mullen has taken the Lion's Share of faceoffs, winning 101-of-176 (.574) with 61 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Riley Figueiras anchors the Syracuse defense with 13 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls while Vincent Bolognio has eight caused turnovers and 18 ground balls with the top rope unit.
  • In goal, Jimmy McCool (7-2) has played all but 15:00 between the pipes and boasts a 9.13 GAA to go with a .568 save percentage and 105 saves.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Syracuse have played 23 times since 1995 with the Orange holding a 17-6 series advantage.
  • The two former BIG EAST rivals have not met in the regular season since Syracuse's final year in the BIG EAST in 2013 – a 9-8 Syracuse victory.
  • Georgetown won the last meeting between the two squads, winning 18-8 in the 2021 NCAA First Round in College Park, Maryland. Jake Carraway and Declan McDermott both had five goals to lead the Hoyas while Owen McElroy collected 10 saves in the win.
  • The Hoyas are 2-6 all-time on the road at Syracuse, but won their last game in the Dome 10-8 in 2012.
