Men’s Lacrosse Opens BIG EAST Tournament Against Denver

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Georgetown University's top-seeded men's lacrosse team begins the 2026 BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP against fourth seed Denver on Thursday. Opening faceoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on the campus of Providence College.

About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are ranked 10th in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll and 12th in the Kane Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
  • Georgetown is coming off a 9-6 victory at Villanova in the regular season finale to win the 2026 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and clinch the top seed at this weekend's tournament.
  • Rory Connor led the Hoyas with four goals and scored his 250th career point in the process.

  • Ty Banks has 16 caused turnovers this year whle Evan MacFarland has 15.
  • Ross Prince is 42-for-84 (.500) on faceoffs with 21 ground balls while Hayden Cody has gone 99-for-212 (.467) with 52 ground balls.
  • In goal, Moore has a 9.83 goals-against average to go with a .554 save percentage and 143 saves.
Scouting Denver
  • The Pioneers are 6-7 on the season and coming off a 10-9 win over Marquette to earn the final spot in this weekend's tournament.
  • Marek Tzagournis leads Denver with 38 points (19G, 19A) while Cody Malawsky adds 37 (29G, 8A).
  • Luke Smeader is Denver's top faceoffs specialist, winning 109-of-229 (.476) draws with 65 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Russell Overly anchors the Pioneer defense with 17 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls.
  • In goal, Grayson Manning (6-7) has played all but 33:17 between the pipes and boasts an 8.76 GAA to go with a .616 save percentage and 175 saves.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Denver have played 17 times since the Pioneers joined the BIG EAST in 2014, with the Pios owning a 9-8 overall record.
  • Denver won the first six meetings in the series, but Georgetown has won eight of the last 12 matchups.
  • The Hoyas won the regular season meeting this year 17-5 in Denver.
