No. 6 Hoyas Defeat Towson, 15-4, In Women's Lacrosse

TOWSON, MD. (March 29) - The sixth-ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team handed the Tigers of Towson University a 15-4 loss on March 29 at Minnegan Stadium in Towson, Maryland. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Hoyas and improved their record to 5-2 on the season, while Towson fell to 2-5 with the loss.

Junior All-American midfielder Sheehan Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore All-American attacker Erin Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) each recorded a hat track and two assists in leading Georgetown to the victory. Kat Brady, Molly Branning, Jennifer Sturm and Portia Gotwalt tallied a goal apiece for Towson.

The Tigers opened the game with a 2-0 run in the first five minutes of play, but the Hoyas did not waste any time in responding with three goals of their own, including two by Elbe, over the next five minutes to go up 3-2. Towson answered with an unassisted tally from Jennifer Sturm with 19:59 remaining to tie the contest at 3-3. Senior attacker Kristen Baer (Norristown, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) stepped up with an unassisted goal just 20 seconds later to put the Hoyas back on top at 4-3. The next score came when sophomore attacker Kate Ahearn (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) found the back of the net after picking up a pass from Sheehan Stanwick at the 19:19 mark to push the GU edge to two (5-3). Sheehan then found her younger sister, Wick, in front of the net and fed her the ball for the score to give Georgetown a 6-3 lead. Towson's Portia Gotwalt capitalized on a free position shot with just under nine minutes remaining in the first to pull the Tigers back within two at 6-4, but it would prove to be Towson's last goal of the game. The Hoyas closed out the first half with Sheehan Stanwick's second goal of the day and Elbe's third to take an 8-4 advantage at the half.

Georgetown used a six-goal run from six different scorers over the first eight minutes of the second period to put the game out of reach. The Hoyas' defensive unit held the Tigers scoreless throughout the second half.

Junior Bowen Holden (Jr., Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and sophomore Chandler Vicchio (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) once again split time in goal for the Hoyas. Holden recorded four saves in 53 minutes of action, while Vicchio stopped two shots. Senior goalie Jacquie Sica turned in a 22-save performance for the Hoyas. Georgetown outshot Towson 41-16.

The Hoyas return to action on Saturday, April 1, when the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers pay a visit to the Hilltop for an 11:30 game on Kehoe Field.
