Georgetown Loses 15-4 to Seton Hall

Georgetown baseball dropped the final game of a three-game set against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall by the score of 15-4 on Sunday at Own T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. The Hoyas fall to 9-25 overall and 3-10 in the BIG EAST. Seton Hall improved to 17-14 and 8-5 in the conference.

Georgetown was unable to get any production from their offense through the first six innings while Seton Hall put runs on the board in the first five stanzas to take an 11-0 advantage. Starting pitcher Eric Sutton (Jr., Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield) tossed three innings allowing five runs on four hits. In the process he struck out a season-high five batters and walked four.

The Hoyas, trailing by 11 entering the seventh, scored a pair of runs. Catcher Phil Pierorazio (Jr., Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) led off the inning with a double. Seton Hall reliever Jeff Barrow then hit shortstop Brian Cassese (Sr., Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) and second baseman Tony Lee (So., Bromall, Pa./Malvern Prep) to load the bases. Three batters later, centerfielder Carlos Gazitua (Fr., Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace) drove in both Pierorazio and Cassese with a single to right-center.

GU added two more runs in the top of the ninth. The Hoyas got the first two men on when pinch hitter Tim Nunziata (Fr., Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) was hit by a pitch and leftfielder John Perko (So., Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) drew a walk. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Nunziata came home on a wild pitch. Perko scored the final run on Gazitua's groundout to second.

Pierorazio, who came off the bench in the sixth inning, had two of Georgetown's four hits. Gazitua, in his second start since his injury March 10, batted 1-4 with three RBI's. He leads the team with 19 RBIs on the season and a .353 batting average (18-51). Seton Hall, which finished with 15 hits, received hits from nine different players. Joe Cuervo, who scored four runs, went 2-2 and walked twice. Chris Carter went 3-6 and scored two runs.

Georgetown travels cross-town on Tuesday, April 10 to battle George Washington in Barcroft Park at 3:00 p.m.
