WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown women?s field hockey team dropped its third consecutive game on Sunday, as they struggled to produce scoring opportunities on Temple?s strong defense, and fell victim to the Owls, 3-1, on Kehoe Field. With the loss, Georgetown?s season record now stands at 5-12, while Temple improves to 10-8.
For the second consecutive game, sophomore Jessica Quinn (Cumberland, R.I./ Lincoln School) began the scoring early in the match, this time with a goal five minutes into the game on a drive from the left side. The goal is Quinn?s 13th of the season, and she currently leads all Georgetown scorers with 27 points.
Temple responded in the 15th minute with a penalty stroke goal by senior Haley Dervinis. Early into the second half, Georgetown had a penalty stroke opportunity of its own, but the shot by senior captain Lauren Galbally (Malvern, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) hit the left post and caromed wide.
Monica Jiad and Rachel Barber sealed the win for Temple with a pair of second-half goals. Jiad was assisted by Andrea Duva, and Barber picked up a rebounded shot to score unassisted in the 60th minute.
Georgetown goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./ Rising Sun) posted two saves in over one period of work, and was replaced midway through the second half by Caitlyn Faller (Fredericksburg, Va./ Stafford), who allowed one goal and picked up one save. Temple goalkeeper Mary Zakrewski posted six saves for the Owls.
The Hoyas return to action next weekend, with a home game on Nov. 1, against Radford. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
