BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (2-11) fell 3-1 to the Wildcats of Davidson (4-8) on a cool and breezy Columbus Day match up on Kehoe field.
Davidson started the game off quickly with an Eleanor Cowley goal just three and a half minutes into play. Georgetown responded quickly with a goal of their own, an unassisted Caitlin Bump (Jr., Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School) score, just under four minutes later. Both defenses settled down after this exchange and the teams went into the half tied 1-1.
Davidson came out strong again in the second half, wasting no time posting their second goal, scoring in the second minute of the period. The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the middle of the half, and held on to cruise to a 3-1 victory.
Although Davidson was able to capitalize more frequently, the teams were evenly matched in ball control on the day. Georgetown controlled the first half, leading in shots 10-4, and Davidson controlling the second, out shooting the Hoyas 6-1. Both teams put eight shots on goal, leading to seven saves by Davidson goalie Sarah Nolan, and four saves by Georgetown?s Abby Winer (So., Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) and one by Caitlyn Faller (So., Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford).
The Hoyas will return to action on Kehoe Field on Saturday October 16th against Radford at noon.
