WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Georgetown University Field Hockey team (2-3-0) out shot the St. Francis Red Flash (0-4-0) 26-3 en route to a 3-1 win in their first game of the year on Kehoe Field.
Although the Hoyas controlled the ball for most of the first half, they still trailed 1-0 going into the break thanks to an early game goal by St. Francis? Erin Davis.
Georgetown?s barrage of shots finally started to hit their mark in the second period, and the Hoyas were able to tie the game within five minutes on a Lindsay Fisher (Bexley, Ohio/ Bexley) goal from Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest). The Hoyas took the lead with 15 minutes remaining on a Jen Kosloski (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) goal assisted by Kristin Twomey (Larchmont, N.Y./School of the Holy Child). Georgetown sealed the deal with just over four minutes remaining on an Erica Chan (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) one-timer from Meghan Leahy (Sr., Windham, N.H./St. Paul's School).
The Hoyas control of the ball not only led to a huge discrepancy in shots but also in corners, with the Hoyas taking 15 and the Red Flash only taking 2. Georgetown also led in shots on goal, recording 11 to St. Francis? 2.
The Hoyas next action is back on Kehoe Field on Friday, September 17
th at 3:30 p.m. against Virginia Commonwealth.
