Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's soccer team (11-3-1, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) shut out Cincinnati, 4-0, today on North Kehoe Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y.) recorded 4 saves today sharing the shutout with freshman goalkeeper Christina Rourke (Howell, N.J) who played the last 11:14. This is the seventh shutout of the season for the Hoyas, tying the single-season record set in 2002, 1999, and 1996.
The Hoyas were dominant throughout the game, outshooting the Bearcats 15-10, and producing eight corner kick opportunities to Cincinnati's two.
Georgetown controlled the ball for the majority of the first half. At 19:27, a corner kick from sophomore defender Karen Waskewich (Laytonsville, Md.) set up the header by senior forward Shara McNeill (Avon, Conn.) to put the Hoyas up 1-0. Just over five minutes later, sophomore forward Elaina Filauro (Denville, N.J.) ripped one for the goal that ricocheted off UC's Ashley Roush for a Cincinnati (3-8-3, 1-5-1 BE) own goal. The Hoyas would lead 2-0 going into halftime.
The second half saw an equally aggressive Georgetown offense. Filauro was on the attack again and this time found net off a double assist from junior Chrissy Skogen (San Marino, Calif.) and senior Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, Calif.) extending GU's lead to three at 62:14. Less than five minutes later, Skogen found herself inside the six yard box to score the fourth goal for Georgetown off a double assist from Hardy and McNeill, solidifying the GU shutout.
Georgetown returns to BIG EAST action this Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. on North Kehoe Field.
