Washington, D.C. -- The Georgetown University women's volleyball team was tripped up at Long Island University in non-league action, 3-0 this afternoon. The Hoyas fell 30-23, 30-20, 30-22 and drop to 6-21 on the season. GU concludes the 2005 season tomorrow with a BIG EAST match at Seton Hall at 2 p.m.
Senior Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) paced the Hoya attack with 15 kills while freshman Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) hit .333 and handed out 31 assists to go along with seven digs. Sophomore Kate Fisher (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Park) had a team-best nine digs.
All three game were close but Georgetown was plagued by .212 hitting in the second game and .093 hitting in the final game while the Blackbirds hit .320 for the match, and .436 in game two.
LIU led the entire way in the opening game for a 30-23 win.
Georgetown led 3-1 in the early going of the middle game but LIU went on a 13-6 run and never looked back en route to a 30-20 win.
Again in game three, the Hoyas led 3-1 and the game saw ties eight ties before LIU went on a 4-0 run to take a 24-19 edge and the closest Georgetown would get would be 25-21.
