DAVIDSON, N.C.-The Georgetown University baseball team powered by Davidson 17-12 Monday afternoon at Wilson field. The win puts Georgetown at a 2-3 record and gives Georgetown the edge in the series, winning two of the three games.
Sophomore transfer Mark McLaughlin and senior captain Jim Supple led the squad, with McLaughlin bringing five RBI, and Supple bringing in four RBI and adding six putouts.
Davidson got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first two innings, yet the Hoyas added two of their own in the third with a double by senior Parker Brooks who brought in Joe Graziano. Brooks then scored off a hit by McLaughlin to bring the Hoyas within one, Davidson leading 3-2.
The Hoyas held Davidson scoreless for the next two innings, and tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 4-3 by a homerun by McLaughlin, who brought in Brooks.
The Hoyas and the Wildcats each tallied runs in the sixth tying the game at five. Georgetown added a run by senior captain Billy Quinn off a hit by Supple.
Georgetown then went on a scoring barrage in the top of the eighth, where they scored 10 runs, Supple, Brooks, McLaughlin, Matt Bouchard, Graziano, senior Andrew Cleary, and Matt Johnson all tallied hits. Bouchard (2), Supple (2), Cleary, Johnson, Jones, McLaughlin, Quinn, and Graziano all added runs.
Georgetown added on two more runs at the top of the ninth, McLaughlin scored off a grounder by Bouchard, and freshman Matt Harrigan tallied a run off a hit by Supple.
The Wildcats went on a offensive streak at the bottom of the ninth, scoring nine runs, but the Hoyas were able to hold them off and Georgetown claimed victory 17-12.
Georgetown will next face Lafayette in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 26, for their first home game of the year. Games are played at Shirley Povich Field at Cabin John Park in Bethesda, Maryland. First pitch is set for noon.
