BRADENTON, FL.--The Georgetown University baseball team defeated Holy Cross 7-2 on Monday, March 7 in Bradenton, Florida. The win puts Georgetown at a 5-5 record. Timmy Jones and Joe Graziano led the Hoyas. Jones tallied three runs, two hits and two RBI, while Graziano added three hits, two RBI, and a run scored.
Despite Holy Cross holding a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, those runs would be their only runs of the game as Georgetown kept the score close. The Hoyas tallied their first runs of the game when Drew Dargen drove in Andrew Cleary in the bottom of the second to make the score 2-1.
The Hoyas struck again in the fifth, where Graziano drove Jones in off a single to left field. The Graziano and Jones combination struck again in the seventh when Graziano slammed a double to center, bringing in Jones who had hit a single to center. Graziano then scored on a passed ball to extend the Georgetown lead 4-2.
After Cleary and Ryan Craft both singled in the top of the eighth, Jones doubled to left field, bringing in Matthew Bouchard (who pitch ran for Cleary) and Craft. Jones then tallied a run of his one on the next play on an error by the shortstop to make the score 7-2. The Hoyas defense prevailed and the score would remain the final, 7-2.
Warren Sizemore earned his second win of the season for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas will face Holy Cross again on Tuesday, March 8 in Bradenton, Florida. First pitch is set for 8 p.m.
