Men's Lacrosse Defeats Mount St. Mary's 14-10

EMMITSBURG, MD-- No. 5 Georgetown (7-2) upended Mount St. Mary's (5-5), 14-10, in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field in Emmitsburg, Md. Brice Queener (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) scored four goals to lead the Hoyas to the win.

Georgetown came out flying in the first quarter, outshooting the Mount 18-5 while taking a 4-1 lead. Queener, Mike Boynton (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Trevor Casey (Bethesda, MD/Georgetown Prep) and Nick Miaritis (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) each scored in the quarter to give the Hoyas a 4-0 lead. The Mount's Tilghman Herring scored with 56 seconds left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Hoyas scored the first two goals of the second quarter, the first coming from Queener with a man down. Pete Cannon's (Haverford, PA/The Haverford School) goal 1:16 into the second quarter gave the Hoyas a 6-1 advantage. Mount St. Mary's, however, fought back with two goals from Seifert and one by Billy Jautze to make the score 6-4. Mike White (Westwood, MA/St. Sebastian's) and Scott Kahoe (Villanova, PA/Radnor) answered for Georgetown, but Warner scored with 51 seconds left in the half to make the score 8-5 at the intermission.

Five minutes into the third quarter, Seifert scored his third of the day to cut the Georgetown lead to 8-6. Georgetown scored four of the next five goals to stretch its lead to 12-7 with 13:41 left in the game. After a Dan Hatton score for the Mount, Ted Lamade (Chevy Chase, MD/Landon) and Boynton found the back of the game to give Georgetown a six-goal edge. Late Mount goals from Jason Werner and Warner rounded out the scoring.

The Hoyas held a 59-33 advantage in shots and a 44-28 edge in ground balls. Whitehurst had 22 saves for the Mount while Miles Kass (Rye, NY/Hotchkiss) made 12 saves in his first start of the year for Georgetown.

Queener led the Hoyas with four goals while Boynton and White each had two scores. Cannon finished with a goal and two assists for the Hoyas. Seifert had three goals and an assist for the Mount while Jautze added a goal and three helpers. Warner scored three goals for the Mount as well.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday, April 16 where the Hoyas will host Loyola at 1 pm on North Kehoe Field.
