The Scoop
Georgetown's game with Rutgers will be the Hoyas third consecutive ECAC Lacrosse League opponent. Four straight league games close the season for GU and thus far GU has gone 1-1 in those contests with a win over Loyola and last week's setback at UMass. Georgetown dropped from first to third in the league standings with the loss at UMass and owns a 3-1 mark in league play. Rutgers meanwhile is sixth in the seven-team league with a 1-3 record. The Hoyas have never lost to the Scarlet Knights, owning a 7-0 all-time mark. GU is 3-0 against RU at home and won a close 7-6 affair last season in Piscataway. In the past three contests between GU and RU neither team has scored in double digits plus Rutgers has only scored more than nine goals once in the seven previous meetings. Rutgers currently is 4-7 overall and unranked while Georgetown is 8-3 and ranked No. 6.
Today's game will be one of the final home appearances on the Hilltop for 11 Georgetown players as the Hoyas celebrate senior day. This group of seniors has stayed together four seasons and been a part of three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Their mark on Hoya lacrosse can be measured in the 42 wins they have been a part of, the two ECAC Lacrosse League Championships and three trips to the NCAA quarterfinals. The members of the men's lacrosse class of 2005 are: midfielder Mike Boynton, midfielder Andy Corno, goalie Rich D'Andrea, midfielder Ted Lamade, attackman Kevin Langtry, long stick midfielder Brodie Merrill, midfielder Nick Miaritis, midfielder Dave Paolisso, midfielder Brice Queener, attackman Mike White and attackman Mat Wilson.
Rutgers this season has suffered three close losses, losing two games by one goal and one by two goals. The Knights' three near wins came against Towson, Army and Penn State and RU's victories were against Delaware, Manhattan, St. John's and Princeton. Goalie Greg Havalchak, last season's ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, had a season high 17 saves last weekend vs. PSU.
You Should Know...
Brice Queener has played in every game of his Hoya career. He has suited up in all 56 games that the Blue and Gray have played in since the 2002 season. He is the only senior to have done that and this season has started all 11 games.
You Should Also Know...
Brodie Merrill was named to the list of 16 nominees for the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy. Merrill was one of five finalists for last year's Tewaaraton Trophy.
