Field Hockey Defeats St. Francis (Pa.), 3-1

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team (3-6) defeated St. Francis (Pa.), 3-1 today on Kehoe Field on the Georgetown campus. Freshman Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md.) scored her fourth goal of the season. Farrand now leads the team in points (12), goals (4), and assists (4).

The Hoyas pounced on their opportunities this afternoon and outshot the Red Flash, 34-2, including 21 in the first half.

The first of these to find the goal occurred at 13:39 when sophomore Deirdre McShea (Strafford, PA) took a shot off a St. Francis turnover in the goal box, putting the Hoyas up 1-0. Less than seven minutes later, junior Jen Kosloski (Drexel Hill, Pa.) scored the second goal for Georgetown off a pass from sophomore Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, MD), doubling the Hoya lead to two. With less than five minutes left in the half, St. Francis (0-9) bounced back and Kristi-Anne Chin broke away to score the first goal for the Red Flash, cutting the deficit to one. The Hoyas went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, the Hoyas set up many opportunities for themselves with eight penalty corners and thirteen shots taken. It was at 52:22 when Farrand connected on an opportunity and scored an unassisted goal to solidify the Hoya lead.

The Hoyas return to action this Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m., hosting the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Kehoe Field.
