Georgetown Baseball Announces Second Annual First Pitch Dinner

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University Baseball program has announced their second annual First Pitch Dinner set for Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Leavey Center on the campus of Georgetown University at 7p.m. Host of Meet the Press and NBC Washington Bureau Chief Tim Russert and Assistant General Manager of the Oakland Athletics, David Forst will be the evening's featured speakers. Journalist, radio host, and television personality Mike Barnicle will serve as the dinner's emcee.

Hoya baseball is coming off its most successful two-campaign since the 1984-85 seasons, and the Hoya nine have set their sights high for 2006. The 2006 squad and coaching staff will take part in the First Pitch Dinner along with baseball alumni, family and friends to help raise funds for the baseball program and celebrate Hoya history.

Tim Russert is the Managing Editor and Moderator of Meet the Press and political analyst for NBC Nightly News and the Today Program. He anchors The Tim Russert Show, a weekly interview program on CNBC, is a contributing anchor for MSNBC, and is the author of a New York Times #1 Bestseller (Big Russ and Me: Father and Son, Lessons of Life). Russert also serves as senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC News. Since Russert took over Meet the Press in 1991, the show has become the most quoted news program in the world.

David Forst is entering his seventh season with the Oakland Athletics and his third as the assistant general manager. His duties include assisting Vice President, General Manager Billy Beane in all player acquisitions and contract negotiations. Forst graduated Cum Laude from Harvard University in 1998 and was a four-year baseball letterwinner, earning third team All-America honors in 1998.

Barnicle is a veteran print and broadcast journalist known for his biting, to-the-point commentaries. Currently a columnist for the Boston Herald and the New York Daily News, Barnicle also hosts a radio program on WTKK-FM in Boston and provides regular commentary on MSNBC. Barnicle, his wife, Anne, and their children reside outside Boston. Their son, Nick, is a junior in the College at Georgetown University and is a catcher for the Hoya baseball team.

The Hoya Diamond Club, the alumni relations and fundraising arm of Georgetown Baseball, is hosting its First Pitch Dinner to help raise funds for the baseball program. The cost of the evening is $150 person, with all proceeds benefiting the Hoya Baseball Program. All attendees will receive tax-deductible gift credit for a portion of their registration fee.
