Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse program announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent for the Class of 2011. The group includes three attackmen, three midfielders, two defensemen, and one goaltender.
The Hoyas finished the 2006 season with a 12-3 overall record and won the ECAC Lacrosse League Championship for the fifth time in the last seven years. Georgetown, ranked No. 5 in the country in the final polls by Inside Lacrosse and STX/USILA, reached the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year and for the eighth time in the last nine years.
"This is a talented and athletic class at every position," Georgetown Head Coach Dave Urick said. "The future of Georgetown lacrosse looks bright with the addition of these student-athletes, and hopefully they will help us attain our ultimate goal of winning a National Championship."
Bobby Boyle - 6-2, 195 - Lawrenceville School, N.J. - Defense
Boyle is a standout defenseman who was first team All-State, All-Pit Division, and All-MAPL during the 2006 season. A captain as a junior, Boyle, who also plays soccer, led the Lawrenceville Team to an undefeated season in 2006.
Nick Heitz - 5-11, 175 - Darien High School, Conn. - Attack
Heitz is an exceptionally fast attackman, who can also play midfield. A lefthander from Darien, Conn., he also plays hockey, where he was the FCIAC postseason MVP last year. Heitz was also a member of the Connecticut Super Juniors.
Dan Hostetler - 6-2, 195 - River Hill, Md. - Attack
An athletic attackman who can also play midfield, Hostetler was a member of the 2006 Free State Team and played in the Under Armour Underclassman game. He was named All-County in lacrosse and football at River Hill High School, where he plays quarterback, is a captain and was the team's most valuable player as a junior. Hostetler, also a captain in lacrosse and basketball, is the younger brother of Georgetown quarterback Ben Hostetler.
Max Seligman - 6-2, 200 - Delbarton School, Md. - Midfield
Seligman is one of the top midfield recruits in the country. He was named first team All-Division, second team All-Area, and honorable mention All-State in 2006 as a junior. Seligman helped lead the Delbarton team to a state championship with a 21-1 record. He also excels on the football field for Delbarton as one of the top receivers in the state of New Jersey.
Stu Shannon - 6-6, 200 - Detroit Country Day, Mich. - Midfield
A four year varsity member, Shannon was a two-time first team All-State and All-Midwest selection. As a junior, he was selected as an All-American and as offensive MVP while scoring 62 goals and 34 assists. Shannon, who was elected captain for his senior year, also plays soccer and football at Detroit Country Day, where he was a two-time All-State selection in soccer.
Ryan Shuler - 6-1, 175 - Georgetown Prep, Md. - Attack
Shuler is one of the top attack recruits in the country. A four-year varsity member, Ryan was named first team All-State, first team All-IAC, first team all-county, and second team All-Met (Washington Post) as a junior on the Georgetown Prep team that went undefeated. He was tied for the team lead in points in 2006, scoring 33 goals and 35 assists. Shuler was a two-time Free State Team Selection and also was selected to the Under Armour Underclassmen game. He has been selected as a captain for the 2007 season. Shuler was also selected all-county and All-MIAA in football as a safety and wide receiver.
Brian Tabb - 5-10, 170 - Georgetown Prep, Md. - Midfield
Tabb is one of the top face-off men in the country, boasting a face-off percentage of over 80 percent during the 2006 season. He was named second team All-Met (Washington Post), second team All-State and first team All-IAC last season and was selected as the team MVP for the undefeated Georgetown Prep squad. Tabb was named to the 2006 Free State and Under Armour Teams and has been selected as a captain for the 2007 Season.
Max Trunz - 5-10, 170 - Chaminade, N.Y. - Midfield
Trunz is a speedy, skilled middie who continues a long tradition of Chaminade lacrosse players at Georgetown. The younger brother of current Georgetown midfielder Christiaan Trunz, he will be a two-year varsity member for the storied Chaminade program.
Andrew Walls - 6-3, 205 - Glenelg Country School, Md. - Defense
Walls is a big, athletic defenseman who has been selected first team all-county three years in a row and was also a three-time All-MIAA selection and a three-time all-conference selection. He was selected to the Under Armour Underclassman Team. Walls, who was selected team MVP as a junior, also plays soccer and basketball for Glenelg.
Matt Winter - 6-3, 185 - Choate Rosemary Hall, Conn. - Goalie
A big, athletic goalie, Winter is one of the top goalie prospects in the country. An All-American selection as a junior, he has been a starter at Choate since his freshman year. Winter recorded a 72.0 percent save average during his junior year and garnered All-New England accolades. Winter, a captain for the upcoming season in lacrosse, also excels in soccer at Choate as the starting goaltender. Winter was also a member of the Connecticut Super Juniors.
