Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's soccer team fell to 1-3 on the season after a 2-0 loss to Missouri State on Sunday in the Hoyas' final game at the Ameritas Classic hosted by Creighton University.
MSU's Justin Douglass started the scoring just 11 minutes into the contest. Douglass scored off a header after taking a cross from Kyle Hopson.
At the 30:10 mark of the first half, Missouri State extended their lead to 2-0 when Ryan Anderson one-timed a cross from six yards out off a Will Zieghan assist.
Georgetown managed just one shot on goal and the Bears outshot the Hoyas, 18-6 for the game.
Hoya junior Joe Devine (Exton, Pa./The Haverford School) made a career-high six saves in his first start of the season.
Georgetown junior Mike Glaccum (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) and freshman Len Coleman (Basking Ridge, N.J./The Pingry School) were both named to the Ameritas Classic All-Tournament Team.
"For the first time this season, I was really disappointed with our performance," said Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese. "Give credit to Missouri State, they were ready to play and were driven. We have to put this one behind us and quickly get focused on our upcoming home opener."
The Hoyas will be back in action on Friday, September 8 when GU hosts Syracuse University in the first BIG EAST Conference game for both schools. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at North Kehoe Field.
