Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University women's lacrosse team co-captains Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) were named BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively as announced by the league office on Monday. It is the second time this season the duo swept the league's weekly awards.
Stanwick totaled 12 points, including nine goals in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas. Stanwick had seven points, including five goals in the 12-6 win at George Mason on March 21. All five goals were unassisted. She also tied her season-high with seven draw controls. In the 9-3 win at No. 19/18 Rutgers on March 24, the Baltimore native had five points, including four goals. Three of the markers were unassisted. Stanwick has totaled 38 points, including 27 goals on the season. She leads the league with 3.86 goals per game, and has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week two times this year, and nine times in her career.
Koch allowed just eight goals in two wins for the Hoyas last week. She averaged 12 saves, and a .750 save percentage. In the 12-6 win at George Mason on March 21, Koch registered 10 saves and five groundballs. At No. 19/18 Rutgers on March 24, she allowed just two goals in 56 minutes, and matched her career-high with 14 saves. It was the fewest number of goals allowed in a two-game stretch this year for the GU defense. This is her second Player of the Week honor and the fifth of her career.
On Tuesday night at 7 p.m., the ninth-ranked Hoyas (5-2, 2-0 BE) hit the road for their third straight road game when GU squares off with William & Mary (2-5) in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe has wins over Longwood and Saint Mary's (Calif.) and losses to Duke, Richmond, Penn State, California and Virginia.
After playing their first five games at home, the Hoyas began a stretch of playing seven of their next eight on the road last week.
Junior attacker Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) had her best week of the season in the two Hoya wins, recording three points. Morley handed out an assist at George Mason before scoring twice vs. Rutgers. Morley ranks fifth on the team with five goals and two assists.
Koch has posted double-figure saves in three straight games for the second time in her career.
