Georgetown Field Hockey Hits the Road to Open BIG EAST Conference Play

Sept. 14, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team travels to Rhode Island this weekend to open the BIG EAST Conference schedule at Providence. The Hoyas take on the Friars, Saturday, September 15 at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex at noon. Georgetown enters the contest with a 1-5 overall record while the Friars stand at 4-2. Georgetown will take on Brown, Sunday, September 16, with the game slated for noon.

The weekend's matches mark the third and fourth games of a five-game road swing for the Hoyas. GU has not picked up a win since the August 31 game when the Hoyas topped St. Francis (Pa.), 4-1 at the University of Maryland Field Hockey Complex.

Junior midfielder Katie Lachman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) leads the Hoyas in scoring with 12 points from five goals and two assists. Freshman forward Micaela O'Toole (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) follows up with seven points to her name on three goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) is third on the team in goals (2) and points (5).

Georgetown trails in the head-to-head series with the Friars, 5-1. Providence shut out the Hoyas, 3-0, during the 2006 campaign on GU's Kehoe Field.

Providence enters the contest on a four-game winning streak after dropping the first two contests of the season against Vermont and at Boston University. The Friars have shut out their last three opponents (Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Rhode Island) with 2-0, 6-0 and 2-0 scores, respectively. This is the fourth-straight home game for the Friars who remain undefeated in the friendly confines of the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.

PC's Nellie Poulin leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals. Julie Ruggieri is second among her teammates in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain has allowed just four goals in six games this year and has registered 22 saves in 406 minutes. She currently owns a 0.69 goals against average and a .846 save percentage.

Brown has yet to tally a win on the year with losses to Vermont (3-1), Dartmouth (2-1) and Sacred Heart (4-2). The four goals Brown has scored this year have been off the stick of different players, all unassisted. Kristen Hodavance has played all 210 minutes in the cage allowing nine goals and posting 21 saves. Sunday's meeting will be the first contest between Georgetown and the Bears.
