Washington, D.C. - It was Senior Day on the Hilltop and the Georgetown women's soccer team got back on the winning track with a 4-0 victory over visiting DePaul. Prior to the game, the team and fans in attendance recognized the athletics careers of seniors Alex Gargano (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Nicole Smith (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville), Laura Snyder (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Christina Rourke (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Stephanie Zare (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest).
GU earned their third-straight victory in the series with DePaul with another solid defensive effort and an offensive showing buoyed by three second-half tallies. Freshman Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) had a goal and assists, sophomore Caitlin Durkee (St. Paul,. Minn./Como Park) dished out three assists and Norah Swanson (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) scored her first collegiate goal.
The Hoyas peppered DePaul goalkeeper Kelsey Hoinkes in the opening minutes as junior Toni Marie Hudson (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) had four scoring chances in the first eight minutes. Off a free-kick into the box from Durkee, Baker put GU in front with a well-placed shot from the penalty spot.
The game remained 1-0 until the second half when the Hoyas started to capitalize on their opportunities. In the third minute of the second half, a Durkee free-kick from the right of the penalty area was headed home by Zare for her third goal of the season.
Eight minutes later, Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) set-up the third GU goal with a deft flick to classmate Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy). The freshman midfielder did the rest sending a twirling shot past Hoinkes for her third goal of the season and a 3-0 lead for the Blue & Gray.
In the 77th minute, a throw-in from Baker was knocked around in the offensive zone before finding Swanson's feet. She was able to loft the goal in from a close proximity to secure her first as a Hoya. Durkee was credited with an assist on the play as well, her third of the game. She currently ranks third on the single-season assists list. The current leader is Ingrid Wells, who recorded 13 helpers last season
Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) made three saves and Rourke denied one in goal for the Hoyas.
Georgetown's final contest of their three-game home swing will be on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Syracuse.
