Georgetown Field Hockey Falls to Bucknell, 3-1

Oct. 19, 2008

Final Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) converted a Hoyas penalty corner five minutes into the second half, tying the score at one goal apiece, but Bucknell (9-6) would score two unanswered goals to defeat the Georgetown Field Hockey team (0-14) 3-1 on Sunday morning.

The Hoyas and Bison played the first 15-minutes of the match to a scoreless tie, until Bucknell pushed the ball into Georgetown's circle. The Hoyas were almost able to withstand a flurry of penalty corners from Bucknell, holding the Bison scoreless after the first two, but on the third corner Trina Boyer stuck a rebound, off of a Dee Crovo save, into the back of the cage to take a 1-0 advantage.

After the half the Hoyas converted a penalty corner to get on the board, as Ashton Hospodar and Annika Bannon set up Volpe on the goal to tie the score at one. Volpe nearly converted a penalty corner but Sarah Zargarpour kept her shot and the follow from Hospodar out of the cage.

Eight minutes later Boyer scored her second goal to put the Bison in front for good, scoring on a pass from Katie Ruiz. Boyer added one more goal with six minutes left in the match, giving Bucknell a 3-1 lead, the eventual final score.

Crovo faced 11 shots and made eight stops in the loss.

Georgetown returns to action on Sunday, October 26 at noon when they host BIG EAST foe Providence College on Senior Day.
