Well it is finally my turn and the moment we have all been waiting for has finally come. Big East play started this weekend and after a much better start than last year's preseason, the Hoyas could not wait to see where we measured up to fellow Big East Competitors.
We opened up play on Friday against DePaul, a much anticipated match up. DePaul had beaten us the year before and we were looking for revenge. And we got just what we were looking for. We defeated DePaul in our first Big East Conference game in front the home crowd, 25-18, 26-24, 25-17, leaving McDonough undefeated in conference play that Friday night. Always a good feeling!
Sunday would be an even bigger test as we faced Notre Dame, a team that finished fifth in the Big East last year. Unfortunately things didn't go the way we hoped. We didn't have our best showing and lost to Notre Dame in three sets. But it was good for us to see the things we need to work on so we can continue to improve throughout the rest of the season as we face other tough competitors.
This weekend we play West Virginia and Pittsburgh. I am a junior, and since I have been here, we have yet to beat the Mountaineers. Pittsburgh will be looking to avenge a 5-game upset on their home court this weekend (editor's note: Georgetown defeated Pittsburgh, 3-2 on Oct. 12, 2007). This weekend should be tough but we are looking forward to this weekend's competition. If we play well, it will be a great weekend for the Hoyas!
